Day One (Outward): Local pick-up
to Dover. Ferry to Calais. Onward travel to your accommodation in Caen (3* B&B for three nights). Check-in & evening free. (Note: This itinerary can be adapted for groups wishing to travel via Brittany Ferries sailing from Portsmouth. Please ask our staff for details).
Day Two (British Sector ): Montgomery relied heavily on experienced divisions to assault the three beaches in the British Sector. Visits to:
Pegasus Bridge & Gondrée Café: The British airborne assault; visit to the museum
Ranville Cemetery: The airborne casualties & the first British officer killed on D-Day
Sword Beach at Hermanville-la-Breche: British 3rd Division landing; Hobart's "funnies"
Juno Beach at Courseulles-sur-Mer: Canadian 3rd Division landing & their push inland
Gold Beach at Ver-sur-Mer: Follow the advance of the Green Howard's; Stan Hollis VC
Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches: British 50th Division landing & logistics after D-Day
Bayeux War Cemetery & Memorial: The main British cemetery in Normandy
Day Three (American Sector): The Americans experienced contrasting fortunes during their assault: Visits to:
La Cambe German Cemetery: German casualties; Michael Wittmann & his tank crew
Ste Mère Église: The American airborne assault; visit to the Airborne Museum
Utah Beach: US 4th Division landing & the role of Theodore Roosevelt Jr
Pointe du Hoc: The US Rangers on D-Day; preserved battlefield with gun emplacements
Omaha Beach: US 1st & 29th Division landing; "Bloody" Omaha
Colleville American Cemetery: The American cemetery in Normandy
Day Four (Return): Depart for Calais & ferry crossing to Dover. Return to your local drop-off point(s). A hypermarket visit can be included en-route, time permitting (Sundays excluded).
