Day One (Outward): Local pick-up
to Dover. Ferry to Calais. Onward travel to your accommodation in Brussels or Antwerp (3* B&B for two nights). Check-in & evening free. (Note: This itinerary can be adapted for groups wishing to travel via P&O North Sea Ferries sailing overnight from Hull. Please ask our staff for details).
Day Two (Waterloo): Tour of the battlefield of Waterloo with one of our guides. Visits to:
Mont St Jean Ridge: Wellington's army; his tactics; Allied dispositions at Waterloo
La Belle Alliance: Napoleon's HQ; his tactics, French deployment & the Grand Battery
Wounded Eagle Memorial: The Memorial to the last stand of Napoleon's Imperial Guard
Plancenoit: The crucial importance of the Prussians to the outcome of Waterloo
Hougoumont Farm: The diversionary attack & McDonnell's defence of the farm
Picton Monument: D'Erlon's attack on Wellington's centre & the British cavalry charge
The Sandpit: The 95th Rifles at Waterloo
La Haye Sainte: The importance of the farm & the role of the King's German Legion
Mercer's Battery: Ney's cavalry charges against the British squares
Lion Mound & Panorama: The Allied right wing & the crisis of the battle
The Ohain Road: The defeat of the Imperial Guard & the climax of the battle
Wellington Museum: The museum is housed in Wellington's former Headquarters
Return to accommodation & evening free.
Day Three (Return):Depart for Calais & ferry crossing to Dover. Return to your local drop-off point. A hypermarket visit can be included en-route, time permitting (Sundays excluded).
Longer Tours: Add a day to this tour & examine the whole campaign with visits to the crossroads at Quatre Bras & the battlefield at Ligny. Alternatively you could include a day in Antwerp or Bruges.
